CARE AND FEEDING
Where should I keep them?
Your praying mantis should be kept in a mesh enclosure in which they cannot escape. An enclosure for a butterfly or small chameleon works well. Because they are still small babies, they can and will try to escape through even the smallest of holes. Your mantis should be kept at warm temperatures, at least 70 degrees (although 75 degrees is ideal). Maintain 50 to 70% humidity, by misting lightly every 1 to 2 days. Through their life their enclosure should be 3 times their length high, and two times their length wide.
They need something to hang upside down from, our screen mesh lids on a 32oz cup provide the proper surface.
Provide sticks, branches, or mesh for climbing and to aid in molting. Coconut Coir, peat, or tissue can be kept in the bottom to absorb excess water and provide humidity.
What should I feed them?
If you are keeping your praying mantis as pets, you will need to give them live food as soon as they arrive and through their life. They are currenty eating Hydei Flightless fruit flies, available on our website, are an excellent choice to feed your young mantis. When they grow older, they can eat all sorts of different foods and attack anything half it's body size or smaller. Anything from worms to flies and small roaches! Also, misting of the interior of their enclosure is needed every 1 to 2 days for adequate hydration. For flies, you can buy our spikes and let them pupate into a bluebottle fly.
Always feed them often enough that the abdomen remains plump.
