The Rainbow Millipede is a herbivorous creature that feeds on decaying organic matter. This creature is native to Southeast Asia. They have beautiful colorations, from bright yellow to vivid red.
They are known to be excellent decomposers and play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. They can be found in damp environments, such as forests, caves, and rotting logs.
Enclosure:
They do well with a plastic or glass enclosure (they reach 4" in length) that is wider rather than taller. Your substrate should be a bit basic with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. We like lots of decaying hardwood leaf litter along with some coco fiber and peat moss. Your substrate should be as deep as your millipede is long so they have room to burrow. Give them some bark so they have a hiding spot. They can be kept between 70 and 80° F with no lighting. They live alongside springtails extremely well.
Feeding:
You may provide a very shallow water dish, though your millipede can get its water requirements from its food when fed the proper diet. They LOVE watermelon rind as an occasional treat!. They will get the majority of their diet from the decomposing leaf litter and wood in their substrate, but they will also eat vegetables like zucchini, yellow squash, and sweet potato at night. Remove any uneaten vegetables in the morning. You can put some grated cuttlebone in for their calcium requirements.
